Linda Barrington

Associate Dean for Strategy and Societal Impact of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, Cornell University

Dr. Linda Barrington is an economic historian, a Senior Extension Associate faculty member, and Associate Dean for Strategy and Societal Impact at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. The college’s mission is to empower leaders who are committed to creating sustainable, shared prosperity. Linda helps fulfill this mission as she oversees the college’s Office of External Relations and Engagement. Her team cultivates relationships with business and community partners, and supports many affiliations across Cornell University. Linda’s purview also includes the college’s role in the Soft Landing New York program, including managing Cornell student team engagement. 

Linda’s published research addresses employee compensation, gender issues in the workplace, employees with disabilities, and workforce demographics. Her work appears in academic journals, scholarly books, industry publications, and numerous business research reports. Linda has been a frequent media contributor on compensation issues and labor market statistics and has presented expert opinion to governmental policy panels on gender pay gaps, generational workforce challenges, and compensation. 

Dr. Barrington is a co-founder and executive director of Cornell’s Institute for Compensation Studies in Cornell’s ILR School. Prior to joining the college of business, she served as Associate Dean of Outreach and Sponsored Research at Cornell’s ILR School. Before that, she served in several leadership positions at The Conference Board, a business research nonprofit. Linda began her teaching career at Barnard College of Columbia University. She holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and MS and PhD degrees in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
