Lauren Merkel

Vice President, International at U.S. News and World Report

Lauren Merkel is the Vice President of International and Special Projects at U.S. News & World Report. She oversees U.S. News’ potential for growth opportunities in strategic international markets. Her primary focus is on cultivating relationships focused on expanding the organization’s brand and business worldwide. She also assists with various special projects at the corporate level and prospective strategic investments.

Prior to joining U.S. News & World Report in 2022 Lauren was the Vice President of International Affairs and Investment of Empire State Development (ESD), the economic development arm of New York State. At ESD, she led multiple projects, including managing the governor’s trade mission to Israel, the “New Day at the MTA” Conference, and an investment mission to India. Her role at ESD included attracting foreign direct investment, planning international gubernatorial trade missions, promoting export programs for New York businesses and managing ESD’s foreign offices. Lauren also worked closely with domestic and international government partners and foreign and U.S. consulates. Prior to joining ESD, Lauren was a management consultant who led transformational projects for corporations, governments and non-profit organizations. She held positions at Roundabout Theatre Company and Lincoln Center Global (LCG), the consulting division of Lincoln Center, NY. While at LCG, she advised domestic and international clients on planning, building, and running arts and entertainment facilities. Lauren holds an MBA from McGill University in Montréal, Canada and a BA in journalism from the University of Richmond in Virginia.
